Some of the wildlife to be found on 'our' allotment site.

Steatoda grossa is widespread in the south but very under-recorded. Interestingly it is a very close relative of the Black Widow spider. This spider is also known as the False Widow, so closely does it resemble its evil relative. Its bite is far less dangerous than the Black Widow's, but Steatoda Grossa can still use its fangs in a way that is said to be as painful as a wasp sting.
Apparently, Steatoda Grossa is quite an aggressive species and it will run at you if you come too close to its web.
The actual body is usually between 16 - 20mm overall size including legs around 4cm.

As we find more items of interest, they will be added to this page, along with any photographs we are able to take.

No matter wether it is watching the wildlife or tending the plot it is always useful to check the weather for the site on over any period from 10 days - 1 hour click
